Beginning in the late 1990s, a number of studies has been performed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of IPL on wrinkle-removal and rejuvenation of the skin. One such study conducted by a group of 4 researchers from the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University and published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology in 2004 found IPL to be a "non-invasive, non-ablative method for rejuvenating photo aged skin with minimal adverse events".
Photorejuvenation is a skin treatment that uses intense pulsed light or other thermal or chemical methods to treat some skin conditions and remove wrinkles arising from photoaging. The process induces controlled wounds on the skin, prompting it to heal itself by creating new cells. This process reverses the effects of photoaging to a certain extent by removing wrinkles.
Laser Hair Removal
1. How does Laser Hair Removal work?
Laser Hair Removal is a faster, gentler way to remove unwanted hair, with great results. It applies precisely controlled pulses of energy, reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.
2. How many treatments of Laser Hair Removal will I need?
Hair can be in one of three stages. One of the stages is called the 'Active' (Anagen) stage. At any give time, 15% to 20% of your hair will be in the Active stage. During a treatment, only the Active stage hair will be treated by the laser. This is why at least 6 treatments are required to cover most of the hair for the body part being treated.
3. What happens if I need more than 5 treatments:
You may need to return for a one time treatment every year or so.
4. Is Laser Hair Removal the same as Permanent Hair Removal?
Yes - Laser Hair Removal is one of the safest and most effective methods for Permanent Hair Removal.
5. What areas can be treated for Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal can be done on any body part except for your eyelashes and head. Common areas include the face and neck, arms, underarms, back, chest, legs, bikini area, hands and feet.
6. How long do Laser Hair Removal treatments take?
This depends on the area being treated. Full legs can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours; the bikini area can take up to 30 minutes; underarms or lips will take up to 15 minutes.
7. How far apart are the treatments?
Four to twelve weeks apart.
8. How do I prepare for the treatment?
Stay out of the sun or tanning beds or tanning lotions for at least 2 weeks before the treatment. Shave the area to be treated. Do not wax or use any creams to remove the hair before the treatment.
9. How long before I see results of Laser Hair Removal?
You will see some results immediately. It will take 1-2 weeks for all the hair in the treated area to fall off. The next batch of hair will then appear as they get into the active stage. As you progress through your treatments, you will see less and less hair re-growing.
10. Can I be treated if I have blonde, red or grey hair?
The laser energy targets melanin in your hair. The greater the amount of melanin, the better the results will be. White or grey hair does not contain any melanin and cannot be treated. Blonde hair does contain some melanin and may be treatable.
11. I'm pregnant; can I still be treated?
While there is no evidence to suggest that pregnant women cannot be treated safely, it is our policy to not treat pregnant women without written permission from their obstetrician.

14. What does Laser Hair Removal feel like?
Each pulse from the laser produces a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a quick, light pinch. The duration of each pulse is very short, in the micro-second range. Numbing cream may be used for the underarms and bikini area. This needs to be applied 30 minutes before the treatment and then wiped off right before the treatment. Numbing cream will be provided free of charge with the purchase of a laser hair removal package of 6 treatments.
